Here is the news from Folgarida
Marilleva: a direct interchange between the lift facilities and the
railroad. This is the only project of its kind in Italy. The new
facilities will be integrated with the Trento Malè electric railroad,
creating an overland-rail-cable system in order to reduce daily
traffic to the current accesses to the ski area. This initiative will
help alleviate congestion caused by commuter traffic in the resort
locations of Folgarida and Marilleva. This follows the indications
drawn up in the Tourism Protocol of the Convention for the Protection
of the Alps (Alpine Convention), which encourages interventions aimed
towards reducing vehicle traffic at ski resorts by offering motivating
tourists to use public transportation. Completion of the Daolasa
communication system will generate positive effects on transportation
management, particularly with regard to bus services to transport
hotel guests from the valley to the ski stations. In fact, the central
location of the facilities in relation to the valley will reduce bus
traffic, creating benefits in terms of energy savings and lower air
pollution.
Therefore, this summer work will begin for the new “Daolasa-Bassetta
del Vigo” automatic cableway with eight-seat cabins, which will be
divided into two segments (Segment I from an altitude of 814 to 1373
metres, Segment II from 1373 to 2040 metres). Moreover, the
“Mastellina” downhill piste between the altitude of 1850 and 1371
metres, the chairlift and school facilities at Malghetto di Mastellina
between the altitude of 1371 and 1306 metres, and an artificial
reservoir for snowmaking will also be completed. Consolidation work
has also been planned along the Val del Duc stream.
The new facilities are scheduled to go into operation by December
2006.
In conducting this work, Società Funivie Folgarida Marilleva SpA is
committed to using technologies designed to reduce negative impacts on
flora and fauna, according to the strict requirements adopted by the
Autonomous Province of Trento.
